Seedlip – My new non alcoholic drink

Seedlip – My new non alcoholic drink

I first discovered Seedlip at a Flock & Form event in Birmingham. As creative minds gathered to share an evening of fun, we were treated to a cocktail making lesson with a difference.

That difference being that the Spirit being used was Non-Alcoholic.

Now for those of you that like a tipple or two, the idea of a spirit that has zero alcohol may appear a little alarming. And of course, there is that immediate thought “how can it possibly taste any good”. To be honest, that was my thought initially, but how wrong was I.

Seedlip was developed after two years of experimental distillation to develop a very distinct taste. This was then offered to Selfridges back in 2015 who agreed to take 1000 bottle. These sold out within three weeks. The third batch supplied to Selfridges sold out within less than half an hour.

So you may well ask why I am bothering to write this blog. I mean they are obviously well respected within their field, and with the likes of The Savoy and The Ritz and even Buckingham Palace being interested then do I really need to share them with you.

Well yes, I believe I do. I mean let’s face it we all struggle with the statement I am not drinking tonight, only to find that after consuming one too many sugary drinks, we are either bored stiff, or high on sugar. As someone who takes her health pretty serious, sugary drinks are out of the question. So when I was given an alternative to try I jumped at the change. And I loved it that much that I put some on my next Ocado delivery.

So what’s so special about this drink then beside its history.

Well for one it can be mixed as you would a cocktail, and yes it can even be served in a martini glass! Eat your heart out Carrie Bradshaw…

It comes in three flavours, they are…

Spice 94

Garden 108

Non-alcoholic, zero calories, sugar & sweetener free with no artificial flavours. Water, Natural Botanical Distillates & Extracts (Allspice berries, Cardamom, Grapefruit peel, Lemon peel, Oak bark, Cascarilla bark). Preservative: Potassium sorbate. Acid: Citric acid.

Grove 42

Non-alcoholic, zero calories, sugar & sweetener free with no artificial flavours. Water, Natural Botanical Distillates & Extracts (Peas, Hay, Spearmint, Rosemary, Thyme, Lemon hops). Preservative: Potassium sorbate. Acid: Citric acid.

Each bottle has an illustration of an animal on the front, which broken down gives the ingredients within that flavour, so it’s easy to spot your favorite flavour.

Now I am quite happy to mix it with a regular or flavoured tonic. One such tonic I have recently come across is by a company called Buzbee’s Beverages. which are low calorie with no added sugar! So if you’re watching your weight too, this is a win-win for you!

As Seedlip are inspired by nature, you can add so many other elements to your drinks, some of which you may well grow yourself. Check out their website for a comprehensive breakdown of mixers, and ideas.

I for one would love to see this product in every wine bar and public house up and down the country, and I am sure once you have tried it you will agree. Being able to drink something that is mature as well as fun, and yet not feel as though I am missing out is exciting. So make sure you raise your glass this coming party season and make sure its filled with Seedlip.
