Invisalign, has made massive difference to my teeth and I haven’t even finished ! So let me tell you why I decided to go down this path…
During my teens and early twenties, I had teeth that some would be proud of. I had no gaps and I had a full smile, oh and a few fillings !! But I hated my overbite and often hid my smile behind my hand.
Following the birth of my daughter I went through a period of self discovery. I believed and still do, that to smile helps bring joy to your heart even when you are struggling. To smile at a stranger can make a massive difference to their day, and if they smile back BONUS 🙂
At the grand old age of 32 I embarked on my first ever brace journey to correct my overbite and give me the smile I always wanted. This brace consisted of metal with a thick plastic plate that ran across the roof of my mouth… Nice !! Three different fitments were used, over what seemed like a lifetime… Was I happy with the results, well yes I suppose I was. However, this is when the trouble started ! I lost my retainer 🙁 well I actually found it a year later under the seat of my car. Goodness knows what it was doing there. But although I tried (yes I did) it no longer fitted.. Surprise Surprise
My teeth moved over the next few years. Once again had an overbite. I also inherited gaps in my teeth !!
My dentist retired. After 23 years I had to find another dentist. It prompted me to also explore Invisalign. After watching numerous YouTube videos and reading blog experiences I took the plunge.
I am now on week ten, and must say it has been such an easy procedure. No metal, no plastic lumps on the roof of my mouth. I take them out when I eat and drink (although that really isn’t a pretty site) In 14 weeks I will have the teeth I desired. Then they will be lightened 🙂
After 10 weeks I can see a massive difference, I don’t have gaps, and my overbite has almost disappeared !
Whats the procedure, you may well ask. Following a consultation with my dentist photographs were taken. A special laser machine was used to pick up every aspect of the positioning of my teeth. I didn’t have to endure gagging on a load of blue gunk being shoved in to my mouth either 😉 This was then sent off to Invisalign. Within two days they emailed a file consisting of every expected movement of my teeth. The video is amazing, seeing how your teeth move week by week on a computer screen gives you the final push.
I then re-visited my Dentist who handed me a pack of 14 braces. One for each week. You are given information about what about caring for your brace, and then your sent on your way. For me a return visit was due after 7 weeks.
Constantly carrying around a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss is fun. Trying to take out your braces discreetly once your food has arrived on a night out is somewhat interesting. “Why are you hiding under the table?” Is often asked. Visiting the ladies to clean your teeth !(You get a few funny looks that’s for sure) and I also began speaking with a slight lisp. All of this is a small price to pay though don’t you think?
